Domain Renewal Rip Off Report
Caveat Emptor! Those two words “buyer beware” in Latin should be the mantra (def# 2) of anyone who does business online.
I received this solicitation in the mail today, personal details have been removed, please click on the thumbnail to enlarge.
What is wrong with this?
Nothing, legally.
Domain Registry of America is not the registrar I use. It is an unsolicited mailing and I presume profitable for this company.
When you check the rates it is easy to see why.
A simple online search will tell you that the rates are outrageous.
I just renewed
- one dot com for one year
- one dot net for one year, and
- one dot com for five years
for a total cost of $66 and change.
If I were foolish enough to accept Domain Registry of America’s offer to save $55 and transfer my registrations to them it would have cost me $155, an amazing 235% more.
Take a quick look at their new domain name pricing. Only $100 for two year registration of one dot net and one dot org domain.
- dot org is available for 14.99 per year (rates just went up)
- dot net is only $8.99 a year, and
- if I use a coupon to get a $10 discount
- my total, $37.96
What a ripoff!
Y’all come back!
