  1. It is now New Year’s Day. Is it just me, or is there a new spirit in the air? I hope it’s contagious.

I feel a dropping off of the old cloak of negative experience, expectation, and perception, and the stepping into the bright, shiny garments of newness, potential, and discovery. Looking forward to what we can create, what we choose to see, if we open our eyes and our minds. And, most of, to moving forward.

I hope everyone feels it. I think my outlook started to change while catching the last few minutes of the movie, “The Polar Express.” The song speaks of how the magic and faith of childhood seem to slip away; and we find it all again on Christmas day. The song says, “You can have miracles, when you believe.”

At just the right time, exhausted, I put that song to the test, and somehow, a difficult Christmas: concern about money, presents, family, and food, all came together, by some miracle; with everyone doing something to make it a good experience for everyone else. It wasn’t an expensive Christmas, but simple, thoughtful gifts (I mean, like a Hershey bar) had more meaning because of the thoughtfulness of the giver.

I remember another song by, I think, Christian artist Keith Green, from the early ’70’s: “Just keep doing your best, pray that it’s blessed, and He’ll take care of the rest.”

That’s my plan, and I’m stickin’ to it.

Happy New Year, and cheers to the path forward.
